Trader Joe's chocolate orange sticks are back! But they're yucky!

WTF!

Last year, Trader Joe's discontinued their chocolate orange sticks (basically an orange flavored jelly coated in dark chocolate - sounds rambo but they are fucking awesome). Apparently TJs and the candy manufacturer couldn't settle their differences. And many people, like myself, were all butt-hurt about it.

Now, the chocolate orange sticks are back...BUT, they don't taste the same. They look a little bit shorter, and the chocolate coating is thinner and crumbles right off. Also, the orange jelly tastes a bit more tart, and seems to have a more watery consistency once you start chewing it.

Not good times!

  1. I find chocolate and orange to be a highly unappetizing flavor combination. I know that it's a reasonably common one, but I can't stand it.

  2. Hmm. Well I can't judge. I hate all things pineapple.

  4. I know, right? Although I'm sort of against returning food when it's not costly.

Maybe I'll send them an email...

  5. that's how i feel about TJ's frozen hash brown patties...they used to be nom-nom, but they recently changed (distributors? brands?) to not-so-good.

  7. Hmm, interesting. I started buying these orange sticks last spring. At first I didn't like them but I somehow became strangely addicted. I buy them in bulk and keep them in the fridge (although my wife points out that they never melt, even on a hot day). I noticed a change in the summer to a more crumbly chocolate...

  8. True! Perfect description of this strange new version of the TJ chocolate orange stick. Thin, wimpy, falling-off chocolate and a tart, watery orange jelly. It does not come close to the "old" TJ chocolate orange stick. Grrr.
